The Mediating Role of College Adaptation between Acculturative Stress and Intention to Continue Studying of Vietnamese International Students: Exploring the Moderated Mediation Role of Social Support
Abstract
This study aimed to examine the mediation effect of college adaptation through the moderation of social support between acculturative stress and intention to continue studying among Vietnamese International students. Participants were 217 Vietnamese international students attending college in Korea, and answered the survey. The data was analyzed through the SPSS Process Macro Model 14 of SPSS 28.0, and the mediation effect, moderation effect, and moderated mediation effect were verified. The results of this study are as follows. First, adaptation to college life was found to completely mediate acculturative stress and intention to continue studying. Second, social support moderates the relationship between adaptation to college life and intention to continue studying. Third, the moderated mediation effect of adaptation to college life through social support was not significant. Based on the results, implications for university and counseling strategies are suggested.
