Abstract

In this study, we performed a cross-cultural translation of the Inventory of New College Student Adjustment (INCA) into Simplified Chinese. We then assessed the structural properties of the translated version using data collected from a sample of 259 Chinese first-year college students across multiple universities. Our results indicate that the factor structure of the Chinese version of the scale (INCA-Ch) was supported as the benchmarks for all fit indices were met and the computed omega coefficients (ω) for each factor, .82 for the 6-item Supportive Network factor and .83 for the 8-item Belief in Self factor, evidenced acceptable internal consistency based on standards proposed by McNeish (2018). Thus, we concluded that the INCA-Ch was a brief, cross-culturally adapted measure with good structural properties that can be used confidently in a variety of practical and research-based applications.
