Abstract

This descriptive research study examined the mentoring needs of seventy-five counseling professionals by scrutinizing the mean scores and item rankings within each of the three sections of the pre-designed mentoring needs assessment instrument used. The findings of the present study broadly suggested similarities in the roles and responsibilities of a mentor, characteristics of a qualified mentor, and the obstacles to mentorship while revealing differences based on the race of participants through self-report. Consequently, the implications drawn from this study hold relevance for counselor educators, fostering a deeper understanding of mentorship dynamics and offering potential avenues for further research and mentorship.
