An Exploratory Study of Career Intentions in Academia: Doctoral Students in Counselor Education Programs in the U.S.
Abstract
This study examined 132 doctoral students’ career intentions and outcome expectations toward working in academia, and extrinsic variables that influence such career decisions. Eighty percent indicated their goals were to pursue a faculty position with high outcome expectations. Gender difference existed in prioritizing extrinsic variables when considering academic positions.
