Abstract

Asian immigrant and refugee women in the United States are often faced with the daunting and ongoing challenge of adaptingto the demands of the new culture. This study aimed to find the key components (i.e., background variables and overallsatisfaction with life) that may contribute to the personal well-being of Asian immigrant and refugee women residing in SouthCentral Pennsylvania. Information was collected on a range of social and demographic variables. The Satisfaction with Life asa Whole and the Personal Well-being Index Scale was used to measure subjective well-being. The study utilized a Pearsonproduct-moment correlational analysis and a simultaneous multiple regression analysis to analyze the data. A major finding ofthe study suggested that women who work have higher levels of personal well-being than women who do not work. The studyalso found that higher levels of satisfaction with life predicted higher levels of personal well-being.
