Abstract

Career-related decision making of Chinese students was explored through a new instrument, the Chinese Career DecisionMaking (CCDM). In this study, 345 freshmen (126 men and 219 women) at a university in southern mainland China, andanother sample of 253 high school students in Hong Kong, responded to the CCDM. In the factor analysis, the preliminaryfindings show good reliability and validity across nine to ten factors, including traditional culture orientation, familyexpectation, peer advising, role model, and self-efficacy. Implications for career counseling practice and theory, as well as thelimitations of the study, are discussed.
