School Bullying of Students with Special Needs: Counseling Issues and Effective Interventions

Abstract

The current study explores the association between bullying and students with special needs. Studies have consistently shownthat students with special needs are more susceptible to school bullying. Bullying has significant immediate and potential longtermnegative impact on students, thereby increasing the importance of counseling victims or bullies with special needs inschools. Various counseling issues relevant to victims or bullies with special needs are explored in terms of types of disabilities.Comprehensive multi-level interventions and strategies are also suggested to address the counseling issues based on theAmerican School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model.
