Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine a model regarding fathers’ involvement with their children and its long-term effects onthe emerging adult children’s positive psychological well-being. Life satisfaction and self-mastery representing positivepsychological well-being were examined in the context of the mothers’ involvement, interparental marital relationship, socialeconomic status (SES), and children’s attributes. Three waves of data in the National Survey of Families and Households wereused with a sample of 362 intact family households. A structural equation modeling analysis was performed. Resultsdemonstrated that emerging adult children’s life satisfaction and self-mastery were longitudinally influenced by fatherinvolvement, and that mother involvement and parents’ marital satisfaction affected father involvement and children’s lifesatisfaction and self-mastery. SES in childhood also influenced the long-term relationship between father involvement andemerging adult children’s self-mastery. Research concerning the study of the promotion of children’s psychological well-beingis suggested.
